First Post + Gym Vlog!
Hi!
Welcome to my new blog! Some of you know me already but for those of you who are new, my name is April Victoria. I have been a competitive athlete traveling the world in the sport of fencing for 17 years. Now I’m working towards spreading both my knowledge and joy for fitness by 1.) Making myself plainly visible to all, and 2.) Growing my professional acumen by becoming a CPT with NASM (National Academy for Sports Medicine).
So, you might be thinking, if I’ve been so athletic my whole life, what would I know about all of the trials, tribulations and struggles that someone who is new to fitness has to go through? Whelp, let me tell you, I’VE BEEN THROUGH IT ALL. What do I mean by it all?
Have you ever experienced any of these?
Plateaus in physical progress
Intimidation in the gym (especially in the weight training area)
Confusion about the role of food and dieting and the general feeling of being inundated when you try to learn the truth through Google searches
Difficulty setting goals and sticking to them, or once you’ve set a goal, difficultly understanding the steps needed to get there
Food bingeing, temptation, and general struggles with healthy food relationships
Lack of flexibility or range of motion in specific movements
Ups and downs concerning self-confidence
Social media pressure and the tendency to compare yourself to others
Feeling like in order to get the body you want to have to make drastic changes such as cutting out carbs entirely or not living a "normal" sustainable lifestyle
Fear of eating out at restaurants because you won’t be able to count your macros
um…Mac-what? Like mac n cheese?
Anxiety balancing fitness with a full-time job (I am also a full-time copywriter/medical writer at a health & wellness advertising company)
Feeling straight up illiterate because you don’t know what a superset, pyramid set, drop set, or whatdoesthisevenmean set is
Fear of doing certain exercises at the gym/being ogled (FOBO yo)
Not knowing where to start
I have! I know some of you guys have too based on the conversations I’ve had with you on Instagram. And I see you women (and men!) all over Insta tackling these issues in diverse and inspiring ways.
Fitness, as a platform, is a means for self-exploration (both mentally and physically), self-efficacy (your ability to believe in yourself and succeed in what you do), and self-love.
That’s why I love fitness so much. And I hope that if you’re curious about fitness, or you already love it, you’ll enjoy reading this blog and in doing so, help me put more accurate, MINDFUL, and inspiring information out into the world.
IN SUM: I am just a huge fitness nerd and I’m excited to share what I know with you and also continue to learn from you guys and the fitness community of course!
Happy Mind Gyming,
April Victoria
